Apple is reportedly planning a major iPhone redesign for its 20th anniversary in 2027, including the highly anticipated foldable iPhone and a new iPhone Pro model with a glass-heavy design, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
This upcoming iPhone 20th anniversary edition is expected to mark a significant shift in Apple’s smartphone lineup. The foldable iPhone has been in development for several years, with analysts predicting a possible launch between late 2026 and 2027. Industry expert Ming-Chi Kuo estimates the foldable model could be priced between $2,000 and $2,500, similar to the launch pricing of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.
iPhone 17 Pro to Offer Minor Design Tweaks
In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro, expected to debut in September 2025, will reportedly retain much of the design language seen in the iPhone 16 Pro. Gurman notes that the front display of the iPhone 17 will remain mostly unchanged, but the rear camera module will sit on a new panel that spans the width of the phone — offering a slight visual update.
While the iPhone 17 lineup, including the rumored iPhone 17 Air, won’t be a major departure in terms of design, internal upgrades are likely, in keeping with Apple’s yearly hardware improvements.
Apple’s Foldable Phone: What We Know So Far
Apple’s foldable iPhone project has reportedly faced durability and engineering challenges, causing multiple delays. Early reports hinted at a 2025 release alongside the iPhone 16, but the timeline has shifted, likely due to technical constraints.
Despite setbacks, industry buzz surrounding Apple’s foldable phone continues to grow, with expectations that it could redefine the premium foldable smartphone market — especially with Apple’s focus on build quality and user experience.
