USDA Recalls Nearly 490,000 Pounds of Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches Due to Undeclared Allergen

If you’ve got frozen breakfast sandwiches in your freezer, it’s time to check the labels. The USDA has issued a massive recall of frozen breakfast sandwiches due to an undeclared sesame allergen—a serious risk for individuals with sesame allergies.

Hearthside Food Solutions Issues Breakfast Sandwich Recall

On April 2, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Hearthside Food Solutions, LLC is recalling approximately 489,539 pounds of frozen sausage and bacon breakfast sandwiches. The reason? The products contain sesame flour, which was not declared on the ingredient label, making this a serious food allergen labeling error.

The affected items were produced between April 1, 2023, and March 25, 2025, and have a 12-month shelf life. While no illnesses have been reported, the risk to those with sesame allergies is significant.

Affected Products in the Frozen Breakfast Recall

The recalled breakfast sandwiches are sold under the LETTIERI’S FOOD TO GO brand. Here’s what to look for in your freezer:

  • 8.35 oz. Sausage, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches
Lot codes: Starting with 23, 24, or 25 (up to 2508451)
  • 7.3 oz. Bacon, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches
Lot codes: Starting with 23, 24, or 25 (up to 2508451)

Check for the USDA inspection mark “EST. V4907” on the packaging.

These products may have been distributed to Army & Air Force Exchange Service locations and other retail freezers nationwide. A full distribution list is in development and will be posted on the USDA FSIS recall page.

Why This Recall Matters: Hidden Allergens in Frozen Foods

This frozen food recall was initiated after Hearthside Food Solutions discovered that the French toast component of the sandwiches contained sesame flour, which was missing from the product label. The oversight raises concern about undeclared allergens in processed foods, a growing issue in food safety.

Even trace amounts of sesame can trigger severe allergic reactions, making accurate labeling crucial. While sesame was only recently added to the list of major allergens that must be disclosed, this recall highlights how labeling compliance is still catching up.

What To Do If You Have These Recalled Breakfast Sandwiches

If you have purchased any of the affected breakfast sandwich products:

  • Do not eat them, especially if you or someone in your household has a sesame allergy.
  • Dispose of the product safely or return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund.
  • If you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

For more information or questions about the recall, you can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or email MPHotline@usda.gov.

Stay Safe with Food Recalls

This recall is part of a growing number of alerts involving undeclared food allergens. Stay informed by subscribing to USDA recall updates, and always check ingredient labels—especially when consuming processed or ready-to-eat frozen foods.
