Disney’s Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Wins Over Audiences with Enchanting First Reactions

Disney’s highly anticipated live-action remake of Snow White is proving that classic fairy tale magic is still alive. The film, which has faced controversy and heightened scrutiny, dazzled audiences at a kid-friendly Los Angeles premiere over the weekend.

Rachel Zegler Stuns as Disney’s Iconic Princess

Leading star Rachel Zegler, known for her role in West Side Story, fully embraced her princess persona at the premiere. The 23-year-old actress wore a breathtaking peachy-pink taffeta gown with a corset adorned with butterfly embellishments and a flowing skirt. She completed the look with a sparkling diamond necklace and elegant drop earrings, channeling classic Disney royalty.

Co-star Gal Gadot, who portrays the Evil Queen, radiated sophistication in a sheer black lace gown with a ruffled overskirt. Both actresses charmed young fans, many of whom arrived dressed as Snow White in the character’s signature blue-and-yellow dress.

While the event was geared toward fans, Zegler recently addressed the public’s passion surrounding the project. “I interpret people’s feelings about this film as passion for it − and what an honor to be a part of something that people care so deeply about,” she told Vogue Mexico.

A Fresh Take on a Disney Classic

Disney’s Snow White has sparked debate for its modernized approach. The film’s portrayal of Snow White’s seven companions deviates from the traditional depiction of the Seven Dwarfs, and Zegler’s casting—bringing Colombian and Polish heritage to the role—marks a departure from the 1937 animated classic. Additionally, Zegler’s past comments on the original film’s romance led to divided reactions among longtime Disney fans.

Despite the pre-release controversies, early reviews from select critics and industry insiders have been overwhelmingly positive.

Critics Praise ‘Snow White’ for Its Visual Brilliance and Heartwarming Story

Variety’s Katcy Stephan applauded Zegler’s performance, calling her “a shining supernova” who “beautifully embodies the graceful, gentle nature of the OG Disney princess.” She also praised the film’s stunning visuals, new musical numbers, and an emotionally compelling storyline.

“It’s a visual feast with show-stopping new musical numbers and, of course, dozens of enchanting animated animals,” Stephan wrote. “The screenplay wisely gives its heroine newfound depth through her fervent desire to become the leader her father believed she could be, and a love story that’s sweet as apple pie.”

Ash Crossan of Screen Rant described the film as “quite charming,” emphasizing the strong emotional core, lovable animal characters, and Zegler’s breathtaking vocals. “It almost got a full tear out of me, and I’ve never cried in my entire life,” she admitted.

Disney insider Skyler Shuler reassured skeptical audiences, saying, “Listen, I was worried, but let me tell you Snow White is PURE DISNEY MAGIC! This will end up being a lot of people’s favorite live-action remake.”

Matt DeGroot of Crooked Media echoed the praise, writing, “Despite becoming an internet punching bag, Disney’s remake of Snow White is actually mostly successful! Rachel Zegler is an absolute star, (most of) the new songs are catchy and beautifully performed, and the visual palette is sumptuous and vibrant.”

Final Thoughts: Will ‘Snow White’ Be Disney’s Next Live-Action Success?

With Snow White set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025, early reactions suggest the film may charm audiences despite previous skepticism. The live-action adaptation promises breathtaking visuals, enchanting music, and a fresh perspective on a beloved classic.

As the buzz continues to build, Disney fans and newcomers alike will soon discover if Snow White truly delivers the timeless magic that has defined the tale for generations.
