Dolly Parton Makes First Public Appearance After Husband Carl Dean’s Death: ‘I Will Always Love Him’

Country music legend Dolly Parton has made her first public appearance following the passing of her beloved husband, Carl Dean, on March 3. The couple, who shared a deeply private yet enduring love for 57 years, remained one of country music’s most cherished love stories.

Parton paid tribute to Dean at the 40th-anniversary celebration of her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Video footage from the event, obtained by Tennessee news station WATE, captured Parton addressing the audience with heartfelt words about her late husband.

“You know how I loved him, and he would want me to be working today. I expect to be working,” Parton told the crowd, explaining why she chose to attend the special event.

She continued, “I just wanted you to know that of course, I will always love him, and I’ll miss him, but I wanted you to know that I will always love you.”

Dolly Parton Honors Carl Dean’s Memory with a New Song

Parton had previously mourned Dean’s passing in an emotional Instagram post on March 6, where she thanked fans for their overwhelming support.

“This is a love note to family, friends, and fans,” she wrote. “Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers that you’ve sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband, Carl. I can’t reach out personally to each of you, but just know it has meant the world to me.”

She ended her message with a touching sentiment: “He is in God’s arms now, and I am okay with that. I will always love you.”

To commemorate their lasting love, Parton released a new song dedicated to Carl Dean on March 7. Titled “If You Hadn’t Been There,” the heartfelt single features a nostalgic cover photo of the couple and tells the story of their unbreakable bond.

“I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old,” Parton shared in an Instagram post announcing the song. “We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end—they live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.”

Dollywood Celebrates 40 Years with Exciting New Attractions

In addition to Parton’s emotional tribute, the Dollywood theme park officially opened for its 40th season on March 9, 2025. The milestone celebration includes new food options, exciting live shows, and special surprises for visitors.

“I can’t believe that we’ve been making memories for folks here at my Dollywood for 40 years,” Parton said in a statement. “That’s a lot of laughter, hugs, and smiles, and I’m glad that we’ve been able to be part of it for so many years.”

As Parton continues to honor Carl Dean’s memory, fans around the world are sending their love and support to the Queen of Country Music during this time.
