Gerard Butler’s Den of Thieves 2 Becomes a Netflix Global Hit After Theatrical Run

A Gerard Butler action sequel is experiencing a resurgence on Netflix, proving once again that the Scottish star is a dominant force in the action genre.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera Finds New Life on Netflix

Following his breakout role as King Leonidas in Zack Snyder’s 300, Gerard Butler has built an impressive career spanning action blockbusters, thrillers, and even romantic comedies. Known for hits like Law Abiding Citizen, Greenland, and the Has Fallen franchise, Butler has cemented himself as one of Hollywood’s most bankable action stars. While his latest sequel, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, had a modest theatrical run, it has found massive success on Netflix, attracting millions of viewers.

Den of Thieves 2 Surges in Netflix Global Rankings

The 2018 crime thriller sequel, directed by Christian Gudegast, brings back Butler as “Big Nick” O’Brien, a relentless detective, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as jewel thief Donnie Wilson. This time, the former adversaries team up for a high-stakes heist. While the film grossed just over $57 million worldwide against a $40 million budget, it is thriving on streaming.

According to Netflix Tudum, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera ranked #3 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English-language movies for the week of March 17 to March 23. The film racked up 8.4 million views and 20.1 million viewing hours, outperforming major titles like Kraven the Hunter, A Quiet Place: Day One, and Morbius. Leading the chart that week was The Electric State.

What’s Driving Den of Thieves 2’s Streaming Success?

The film’s newfound popularity suggests that audiences crave high-octane heist thrillers, even beyond the theatrical window. With strong engagement numbers, Den of Thieves 2 could maintain a solid position in the Netflix Top 10, potentially increasing its staying power and bolstering interest in a third installment.

If this momentum continues, Den of Thieves 3 may get the green light sooner than expected. Gerard Butler’s enduring appeal in action cinema—combined with Netflix’s vast global audience—suggests that this franchise is far from over.
