Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) head coach Luis Enrique has urged his players to be wary of Liverpool’s blistering attacking speed ahead of their Champions League Round of 16 clash. To counter the Reds’ threat, Enrique believes PSG must dominate possession and control the tempo of the game.
The first leg between PSG and Liverpool is set to take place at Parc des Princes on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Both teams come into the match in top form.
PSG remain unbeaten in domestic competitions and have scored an impressive 21 goals in their last four matches. Meanwhile, Liverpool are fresh off a one-week break, having secured back-to-back wins over Premier League giants Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Beyond their recent form, Liverpool’s attack is one of the most dangerous in Europe. Led by Mohamed Salah, they are the highest-scoring team in the Premier League this season. Moreover, Liverpool advanced to the knockout stages as the top team in their Champions League group.
Given Liverpool’s strengths, Enrique stressed the importance of PSG denying their opponents any opportunity to build momentum.
“This will be an intense match. On paper, it’s one of the best games you can watch in Europe. Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world when it comes to counter-attacks,” Enrique said on Tuesday (March 4), as quoted by ESPN.
“We must be very careful not to suffer because of their transitions. They have three ‘fighter jets’ in attack. If we don’t impose our game on them, stopping them will be incredibly difficult.”
“We will need to keep possession. Physically, we may not be the strongest, but we are one of the best teams in Europe when it comes to controlling the ball,” he added.
With two attacking powerhouses facing off, this Champions League clash promises to be a thrilling encounter. Can PSG’s possession game neutralize Liverpool’s explosive counter-attacks? The battle at Parc des Princes will provide the answer.
