Saturday Night Live Recap: Mikey Madison Hosts a Hilarious Episode with Political Satire and Musical Guest Morgan Wallen

The latest episode of Saturday Night Live brought a mix of sharp political satire and standout performances, with Mikey Madison making her hosting debut and Morgan Wallen delivering an electrifying musical set. The show wasted no time diving into the most buzzworthy headlines, including a sketch parodying the controversial Signal group chat involving Trump administration officials.

SNL’s Cold Open: Political Satire at Its Best

Returning from a two-week hiatus, SNL opened with a biting take on the recent Signal group chat scandal. The sketch humorously reenacted top Trump administration officials mistakenly inviting The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief into a secure chat where they discussed military plans against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

In the sketch, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, played by Mikey Day, set up the chat, only to accidentally include Jeffrey Goldberg (also portrayed by Day), who later exposed the messages. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (Andrew Dismukes) was depicted as recklessly oversharing classified information.

Hegseth’s character texted: “Tomahawks airborne 15 minutes ago. Who’s ready to glass some Houthi rebels?”—before adding a bizarre string of emojis. The comedic twist came when the chat was revealed to include three high school girls, played by Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, and Mikey Madison. Their reactions added a layer of absurdity to the situation.

“Do we know you, bro? This is Jenebel,” Madison’s character responded.

“Oh, nice,” Hegseth said. “Jenebel from defense, right?”

As the conversation spiraled further, Vice President JD Vance (Bowen Yang) and Secretary of State Marco Rubio (Marcello Hernández) jumped in, sharing even more classified documents—including nuclear submarine locations and deep-cover CIA agent identities. Eventually, the girls realized they were way out of their depth.

“We’re in high school,” Nwodim’s character said bluntly, prompting a panicked response from Rubio.

Mikey Madison’s SNL Hosting Debut

Madison, known for her roles in Better Things and Scream (2022), delivered a monologue that balanced self-deprecating humor with reflections on her career. She joked about being mistaken for a teenager despite being in her late 20s and how that made her perfect for horror films. Madison seamlessly transitioned into sketches throughout the night, proving her comedic chops alongside the SNL cast.

Morgan Wallen Rocks the SNL Stage

Country music star Morgan Wallen took the stage as the night’s musical guest, performing two tracks from his latest album. His performances, filled with energy and Southern charm, captivated the live audience and viewers at home.

Besides the headline-making cold open, the episode featured several other memorable moments:

  • “Influencer Court” – A hilarious spoof on social media influencers facing absurd legal charges.
  • “Reality TV Show for Dictators” – A parody of dating shows but featuring controversial world leaders.
  • “80s Action Hero Returns” – A nostalgic yet ridiculous sketch about a washed-up action star trying to make a comeback.
